Ans Markus

YOELL®

Ans Markus has been painting for almost thirty years. During this period, she has developed her own style where women play an important role. Her bond with this theme goes back to her times as a teenager, and her first and traumatic marriage. She gained popularity with women in bandages, sometimes combined with empty expanse, tranquil old buildings or sculptures. The deeper meaning of this work was the female melancholy. She became nationally recognized between 1986 and 1990 with dual portraits of modern masters like Picasso, Leger and Klee. Her work was praised for the wealth of ideas, compositional discoveries and surprising technical twists. In the following years, she worked on the development of her own imagery. Despite different theme choices it retained a high degree of consistency through which her work is always instantly recognizable. Ans Markus designed especially for MKI a luxurious jewellery set.  Back to top

Barbara Barend

Mother and Child First

In 2005 Barbara Barend - Dutch journalist - met MKI’Founder & President Harold Robles. Since that moment she is involved with the ‘Mother and Child First’ project as a goodwill ambassador. In the summer of 2007 Barbara visited South Africa with the Sanec/MKI medical mission and saw with her own eyes what HIV/AIDS can do to people. “Seeing and holding African babies with death in their eyes is unacceptable. The pictures of these helpless children are framed forever in my mind. Every newborn has the right to start out without HIV/AIDS.”  In Holland Barend tries to spread the message of MKI and ‘Mother and Child First’, hoping to get as many funding as possible for her project and in this way increase the number of babies being born free of HIV/AIDS. Barbara: “There is a beautiful Jewish saying that is used when we honour people that hid Jews during World War Two. ‘If you save one life, you save mankind.’ This sentence I also heard many times in Africa. Help, as in the ‘Mother and Child First’ project, may look like a drop on a heated plate. But all these little drops together make small ponds. These ponds combined with the strong will of the African woman give me hope.”
