The ABC of Hepatitis

Hepatitis is an ever present danger of various degree and extent, yet very little about the disease is usually known by the general population.

Heaptitis A is an omnipresent disease throughout Southern Africa, often affecting young children as well as adults. Fortunately, it is the least serious form of the ABC of Hepatitis, however, its impact on patient and a country’s loss of workforce time can be considerable.
Heaptitis B can have serious consequences for both patient and a country’s population at large as it can cause severe liver damage associated with high healthcare related expenses.
Hepatitis C is the most serious illness of the three, almost always leading to severe liver damage and even cancer after many years, especially, if there is no appropriate (expensive) treatment available.

Hepatitis B and C are also considered sexually transmitted diseases, which adds to their potential of widespread prevalence, while the simple use of condoms could have an important positive impact on limiting their spread.

Thus, the most important approach to the ABC of Hepatitis is its appropriate prevention, followed by the early diagnosis of the disease, if present. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to educate the population at large, and especially vulnerable communities in particular, in all the ways that these diseases can be spread, prevented and/or identified as early as possible.

MKI is offering three individual workshops – one each for:

Hepatitis A – Prevention through Hygiene
Hepatitis B – Prevention is the Name of the Game
Hepatitis C – The Silent Killer

These workshops are design in an easy to understand format, covering all the important aspects regarding:

And, most importantly:

Following the workshop, all participants will receive handouts and booklets covering the respective form of hepatitis that has been covered.
