MKI Health-ID® – A Win-Win Situation for All Partners
The positive impact of MKI’s Health-ID® will be seen in multiple ways and on a broad level, creating an overall Win-Win-Win-Win situation for all participating partners, as summarized in the following:
1. The patient carrier of a MKI Health-ID® will Win, because s/he:
- Is better informed about her/his illness and thus, can adjust her/his lifestyle accordingly
- Knows more about the medications s/he is required to take, which will improve the patient’s compliance
- Is assured that when s/he travels and requires medical attention, the doctor will know within a few minutes the entire relevant past medical history (PMH) of the patient, including current medications
- Will become more independent of her/his local doctor/healthcare facility, especially in cases of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease, etc, but also, if suffering TB, MDR-TB, XDR-TB and/or HIV/AIDS; this independence will increase the patient’s quality of life and support treatment compliance (see above).
2. Doctors will Win from the MKI Health-ID® because they:
- Will be able to review the patient’s PMH in an instant, including all current medications the patient is taking
- Can ‘understand’ the patient – the MKI Health-ID® will bridge any potential language barriers between the (often foreign trained) doctor and local (rural) patients
- Will be able to review recently performed (blood) tests fast and accurately, which will help in diagnosing the current medical problem; and, at times, it may also prevent the need of ordering additional, expensive and sometimes even unnecessary (blood) tests, thus saving the public healthcare system the drainage of valuable resources (money, time, equipment, solutions, etc.).
3. The National Department of Health (DoH) will Win by using the MKI Health-ID® for:
• Evaluating national healthcare statistics anonymously, thus the DoH:
- Can assess regional disease prevalence
- Can assess newly surfacing (regional) disease problems and/or potential epidemics early (e.g. H1N1 influenza) and react faster and more effectively to these illnesses
- Track population movements within the country, including the transmission path of infectious diseases
• Promoting a National Public Healthcare Insurance to every citizen, which will:
- Support the financing of the national healthcare budget over the long-term;
- Assure treatment adherance in all chronic diseases, and especially in cases of TB, MDR-TB, XDR-TB and HIV/AIDS, because it will make treatment affordable and easier accessible to the patient;
- Support national healthcare statistics and surveys.
• Saving considerable funds within the national/regional healthcare budget by preventing the repetition of often unnecessary tests, and thus, allowing these funds to be directed towards the increase of personnel and equipment within the public healthcare system.
4. MKI will Win by way of its MKI Health-ID®, because it will foster MKI’s own organizational development and growth:
MKI can establish itself as a valuable and effective partner by supporting the national public healthcare systems for the less advantaged population;
MKI will be able to establish contacts and relationships with high ranking government represantatives, which in turn will provide MKI with necessary local/national support for pursuing its many other projects and goals for the benefit of the country’s population;
MKI will be able to offer governments of other Southern African countries a valuable tool for their own public healthcare development, and thus, give MKI a tool to open doors for its establishment in those countries in a faster and more effective way;
MKI can ultimately market the successful version of its MKI Health-ID® to other countries, interested organizations and/or companies and thus, create a source of steady income by way of ‘royalties’ for its future growth.
